The registration period for Eastern Missouri qualifiers is closed for the season.

We are very excited that we have over 300 teams participating this year! Forty(40) of those teams will advance to our Championship Event.

We still need volunteers, especially scorekeepers, judges and referees. Please consider giving a gift of your time and help support one of the FIRST® events in our area. We can't do it without YOU! Training, food and a free t-shirt are provided.

Event Day Judging Information
Adults and General Reminders

  • Please arrive at least 5 minutes before scheduled judging time
  • Video taping allowed, do not share core values activity video the day of (see Awards)
  • At least the coach and a videographer will be allowed in the room, notified at coaches meeting if there is a venue specific limitation on the number of adults due to room size
  • Adults not allowed to talk or help during judging sessions
    • We appreciate your involvement but please do not talk unless addressed. This is the kids' opportunity to show what they have accomplished. Replies prompted by the parents/coach don't help the team.
  • No one enters the judging room after judging starts to avoid distracting kids
  • Please be quiet in hallway so teams presenting to the judges can be heard
  • Silence your cell phone/pager/watch alarms before entering judge sessions
  • Adults: do not touch PCs in pit (gives misconception that you are programming for kids)
  • Students, Calibrate your robot if it needs it during practice or the beginning of each round
  • Please remember, everyone here is a volunteer

Judging Process Overview

  • Bring Team Info sheet with you to give to judges (one per judging room)
  • Please no gum or candy in the judging rooms
  • Students, remember to look forward and speak clearly
  • Judging times: 10 minutes/session
    • Project: 5 minutes to set up and present; 5 minutes for questions
      • Parents/coaches cannot set up
      • Parents/coaches may carry very heavy or valuable items
    • Robot: 4 minutes for robot description, 6 minutes for questions
      • Don’t forget to bring program printout if you have one
      • There are no required printed or written materials, but we suggest team use the RDES
      • The judges are oriented to the robot game, but are not’t experts in the minutiae of the rules. Questions about scoring, etc., should be addressed to the referees.
    • Core Values: 5 minutes for exercise; 5 minutes for questions
      • Do NOT bring core values poster to the room if you made one - keep it at table
      • What happens in Core Values, Stays in Core Values. Please do not share the activity with others

FIRST Eastern Missouri FLL Award Notes:

  • Every team that wins deserves it. Not every team that deserves it wins.
  • Sharing the core values activity with other teams at an event disqualifies a team for judged awards.
  • The global innovation award (GIA) nomination does not exclude a team from other awards
  • Not every team that wins an award will advance
  • It is possible to advance without winning a specific award
  • Between 10%-12% of teams at a qualifier will be invited to advance to Championship
  • Qualifiers will use the consolidated awards for each judging lane
    • core values, robot design, project, champion, and robot performance score + 1 GIA nomination across all lanes at event
  • Championship will use the Expanded Award set
