It’s way more than building robots.

FIRST Tech Challenge teams (10+ members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to play a floor game in an alliance format. Participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have!” Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles (like keeping an engineering notebook), while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. The robot kit is reusable from year-to-year and can be programmed using a variety of languages. Teams also must raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach for which they can win awards. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships.

2016-2017 Structure
Minimize

We have a new structure for participation this season.  Due to the amazing growth in the program we don't have the capacity to offer all teams multiple Qualifiers every year.  2016-2017 will be the Pilot Season for our new structure.

There will still be Qualifiers like we have always had but teams will be limited to ONE Qualifier. This is the full event experience with Judging, Qualifying Rounds, Alliance Selection and Finals. Teams advance to Missouri Championship based on FIRST advancement criteria. Any team hoping to advance to Missouri Championship MUST compete in a Qualifier.

New this season are Meets.  Meets are smaller, quicker robot play only events.  These are designed to allow teams an opportunity to try out their robot and refine before the next Meet.  Teams will be able to attend TWO Meets anywhere in our region.

Regardless of where you play, your scores (QP and RP) will be used to rank your team within your Conference.  Top teams within each of the four Conferences advance to one of the two Conference Qualifiers. Conference Qualifiers are full event experiences with Judging, Qualifying Rounds, Alliance Selection and Finals. Teams advance to Missouri Championship based on FIRST advancement criteria.

Read all the details in the 8 page PDF below.  We also have the  2016 Competition page.
